This weekend, as I was a big ball of stress, I found myself looking for Silver Linings every other moment. Some days, I have to go back to the basics and tell myself that a great and amazing Silver Lining is any day without chemo.
The truth is that just looking for Silver Linings makes me happy. I love how I can still find them, now matter how aggravated I am! This weekend, sometimes all it took was looking up in the sky to find one. And the best part about finding Silver Linings? I’m not unique. Not at all! The truth is that anyone and everyone can find Silver Linings. All you have to do is look for them!
Anyhoo, as I was on my bazillionth search, I found myself wondering where the heck the phrase Silver Linings came from. Well, as it turns out, John Milton coined the phrase ‘silver lining’ in Comus: A Mask Presented at Ludlow Castle, 1634
I see ye visibly, and now believe
That he, the Supreme Good, to whom all things ill
Are but as slavish officers of vengeance,
Would send a glistering guardian, if need were
To keep my life and honour unassailed.
Was I deceived, or did a sable cloud
Turn forth her silver lining on the night?

Ahhh…..silver linings we have the whole week ahead of us to find them. As in the John Milton poem the sable cloud can cast a gleam, or even a rainbow over the pall, creating a sliver lining.
