I don’t usually write on the weekend, but I had to tell you about something very (very!) special. Today marks the 16th annual Compassionate Friends Worldwide Candle Lighting. This event unites family and friends around the globe in lighting candles for one hour to honor and remember children who have died at any age from any cause.
As you all may recall, I have been a hospice nurse for the last 12+ years. There is nothing more unnatural or more painful in the world than the death of a child. The grief never leaves a parent or other family member. Continuing to honor the life of a child through memorial services as well as events such as this one provides a wee-teeny-tiny Silver Lining to the pain.
Just lovely, Hollye. All your posts are so beautiful. I took a little look through some of your past posts (a little trip down memory lane) and I can't get over all the wonderful information you have given to us. You must know that many times I've used your valuable information and inspiration to help others and reading your blog has helped me too. Thank you and Happy Hanukkah!
Wow, Kim. Your comment is absolutely the Silver Lining of my day. Thank you so very much! In fact, thank you for ALL of your comments. They have meant the world to me!
Oh, my. I have my candle burning now in memory of a baby girl that was very much wanted, very much loved and very much remembered. It is true, the grief never quite leaves, it is always with you, it makes one appreciate the children presently in one's life even more. You must be an amazing, inspiring presence in your patients' lives, Hollye, a Silver Lining indeed.
Thank you, E.B. Sending love to you as you remember today.
