Fall Fashion: The LBD

As we begin to move from the bright whites of summer into the darker palate of fall, I find myself drawn to the classic Little Black Dress (LBD). I’m such a fan of the LBD. It’s one of those pieces in my closet that I turn to whenever I want to feel comfortable, elegant, sophisticated and confident. To me, the LBD is the ultimate symbol of chic and sophisticated simplicity.

The LBD was introduced by Coco Chanel between the World Wars. At the time, fashion was dominated by bright colors, prints and heavy embroideries. The long-sleeved black dress, which was initially made for day in wool, and for evening in crepe, satin or velvet, rocked and then captured the fascination of the fashion world.

In 1926 American Vogue named Coco Chanel’s black dress “a Ford”, referring to its simplicity and potential for long term viability. Ummm….I think they made the right call on that!

Do you have anything in your closet that makes you feel extra special?
