Silver Lined Discovery: Kavinace

In my earlier post dedicated to getting the right amount of sleep, I wrote about Kavinace, but it dawned on me that I didn’t give you any details about it…and you know that I love details!

WTF is it? Kavinace is a sleep support supplement that combines two powerful GABA-enhancing ingredients (Phenibut and Taurine) to provide a relaxing effect on the brain & body.

How does it work? Good sleep, I’ve learned, is all about GABA (no, not as in Yo Gaba-Gaba on Nick Jr.!). Rather, GABA is essentially the brain’s own naturally occurring anti-anxiety drug (Silver Lining). There are three key ingredients in Kavinace: Phenibut, Taurine, and Vitamin B6.

The Phenibut binds with GABA receptors in the brain in addition to raising the brain’s GABA levels overall. Phenibut also puts a damper on phenylethylamine, a neurotransmitter that contributes to states of over excitement and stress. So, yes, Kavinace also helps relieve anxiety (bonus Silver Lining).

Taurine also increases GABA levels in the brain by acting as a GABA agonist, increasing GABA synthesis and preventing GABA breakdown. Additionally, Taurine protects the brain from excessive ammonia levels, free radical damage and excitotoxicity.

Vitamin B6 is included in Kavinace as an important cofactor (a substance essential to help the Phenibut and Taurine work) for the production of GABA.

As with ALL supplements and drugs and basically anything, please consult with your doctor before trying!

  2. Hello Hollye,
I truly enjoy your blog, and have appreciated so many things you have written about. I do have trouble sleeping especially lately. I am excited to try this, where do you buy it? is it available locally?
    Warmly, Rosie

    1. Wow, Rosie. THANK YOU! It is available locally…I believe at the Montecito Health Foods store…or you can order it at amazon.com
Hope it works as well for you as it does for me! xx

  3. It can help with sleep, but be sure you check Internet posts about phenibut withdrawal before you buy it. There are also some reported issues with the taurine. I’ve read that because Kavinace contains phenibut, the withdrawal can be extremely difficult for five to seven days after stopping it. I’ve also read that to avoid tolerance/withdrawal issues, it’s best not to take it more often than once a week. Just because you can get it without a prescription that’s not a guarantee there won’t be side effects or adverse reactions.
