Karen's Silver Linings

I’m a two-time cancer survivor, who was like most when I heard the news, “a death sentence”. I found out later, it was truly “an awakening” for me. I did begin asking questions, to what had I done so bad in life to have this placed upon me. But instead of bemoaning my fate, I decided to look for the positive side of it all.

I also realized that I was about to face a new beginning, new hope, do and see more with a whole new prospective on life. Even with all the complications I now have to live with, and all the struggles I’ve dealt with all my life, “I’m sill living”. Who am I to complain? During my collisions with cancer (breast/colon), writing became therapy for me. All that I had to endure, gave me the strength and encouragement to write down my thoughts and I placed them in poems. I took those poems in placed them into book form. I had that book published and it’s called “True Simple Poems of Life, Faith and Survival”. With the words and phrases of each poem of statements, I wish to make a positive impact on someone who’s ill or otherwise, where they can proceed life in a whole new way. I went on and had another inspirational children’s book published and I’m working on my third.

I truly believe when you survive a horrific tragedy or a horrible disease, as cancer, it’s for a reason, “you have a purpose” and I believe I’m doing mine; by sharing my thoughts and experiences with others. I’m a true example that you can survive cancer, not once, but twice, providing you catch it in time, have faith and allow that faith to direct your path.

  1. I'm just beginning my second bout of breast cancer. First time was breast, lymph nodes, liver, spinend hip. Got through that with smiles and a positive outlook, wonderful friends, family, the best cancer nurses possible and of course an incredible Doctor.
2 weeks ago I was diagnosed wirh liver cancer. Wow!!! I had just celebrated my one year anniversary.
We are amazing, we humans, how we just take it in our stride. Find out what has to be done, do some research and then it hits you. I'm having much more difficulty this time finding that inner strength. I've always been a positive person and know that hidden strength will appear again, has to.
When this challenge is behind me I hope to get back to my musical career as it gives me and all around me happiness and has helped me get through many challenges.
Thank you for letting me share my thoughts and feelings.
Best thoughts to all out there going through their own challenges .
