October has always been my favorite month of the year because it seems to signify the real change in season (September still feels like summer to me). I love the change in seasons. Yes, we do have a fall season in Southern California. It’s just a little more subtle than my experience growing up in the Midwest.
There are so many Silver Linings about October, including: caramel apples, Halloween, cool crisp air, The Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown, eating anything and everything pumpkin-related, fashion (tweed, corduroy, and cashmere), and a long run in the autumn sunshine.
What do you love about October?
On my birthday, October 16th, the autumn colors are at their peak here in Omaha. Splendid are the days, sunny and crisp, the evenings are cool with a chill in the air. I grew up in northwest Minnesota where the leaves colored earlier, dropped sooner, and the first frost often came before Halloween. (Sometimes we even had snow by Halloween.)
I like the month for pumpkins; as in pumpkin bread, pumpkin squares, jack-o-lanterns, trips to the pumpkin patch for caramel apples, kettle corn, and hayrack rides, choosing and making of Halloween costumes, visiting spook houses, Fall decorations and house trimmings, and the start of the seasonal Christmas boutiques. Ah, the splendor of October!
Beautiful, Carolee! Are the cool crisp evenings AMAZING?!? October is indeed splendorous…
