Taking a Break from Technology

The Silver Pen

Taking a Break from Technology

This weekend, I am excited – thrilled, actually – to be going to a program called “The Ranch 4.0” in Westlake Village, California. According to its website:

this is a 4-day all-inclusive results oriented program intended to jump-start your fitness routine, healthy lifestyle and metabolism.

Sounds great, right?  However, the way to jump-start all of these Silver Linings involves 8-10 hours of exercise a day on a 1500 calorie/day diet. Yes, you read this correctly. I know this sounds like a lot (ok a TON!) of exercise, but I’m thrilled about it because I really feel like it’s the only way to reboot my brain.

As many of you all know by now, for the past 5+ months, it feels as though I have been playing a crazy intense racquetball game…in my brain. Boing! Boing! Boing! I figure that if I am utterly physically exhausted then my brain will have no other choice but to follow. To settle down. To focus only on rest. Make sense?  Work with me here….remember the 1500 calorie/day diet?!?

So this weekend feels like the perfect opportunity to jump-start both physical AND mental health. And the extra special Silver Lining is that I will get to spend this weekend with three dear girlfriends. I’m so thrilled to be reunited with them!  Oh, AND I’ll be completely and totally unplugged. There are NO – I repeat NO – cell phones or computers allowed.

Here’s what my schedule at the Ranch 4.0 will look like Friday through Sunday (I’m laughing out loud as I even begin typing it!):

  • 5:30 am yoga
  • Tiny Breakfast
  • 4-5 hours of hiking
  • Itty Bitty Lunch
  • 2-3 hours of workouts
  • Evening yoga
  • Teeny Dinner
  • Night-night

Please wish me luck!

While I’m gone, I have a couple of posts lined up for you, but because I’ll be offline, I won’t be able to respond to comments or emails. See you next week!

  1. What a wonderful experience for you. Sounds intense but being that it is a "program" and run by professionals, I imagine it is controlled intense and you will manage just fine!!! Relax and enjoy, and be sure to tell us all about it.

  2. I'm with Cynthia Spivey on the ice cream. The Ranch 4.0 sounds like a great way to jump-start, reboot, restart all your systems (pun intended). Unplugging is good for the soul, I did that for a couple of days on my recent vacation, no cell phone, no laptop, I was a bit "twitchy" at first, but then it was great! You are going to have a wonderful time.

  3. Ugh, the hiking sounds nice but it all sounds a little intense? Hopefully, with your friends there, you will share lots of laughter–always good for the soul. Looking forward to a follow-up report about the adventure.
