Today, I had a wonderful checkup in San Francisco with my Radiation Oncologist at UCSF.
I was so excited to show my doctor my skin (at the radiation site) because it’s healing so well. I must admit that I’ve never been excited to take my shirt off in front of a woman until today (& yes, I told her that!).
The Silver Lining news is that I’m slowly but surely beginning the true road to recovery. Now that I’m several weeks out of my daily treatments, I’m starting to feel as if I live among the, well, living. Boy oh boy, it’s nice to be back!
Speaking of back, it’s fantastic to be back in San Francisco, my home away from home. When the HOTY (still the Husband of the Year) and I landed in San Francisco, I felt an immediate calm transcend over me. Everything about San Francisco fills my heart, body and soul.
I’m deeply grateful for the incredible care that I received here. There is a gift no greater than exemplary healthcare.

H, I am so pleased you are healing well!!!! In fact I am delighted. I am afraid did not fare so well. Really thought I had nuked it (scuse the pun) but alas the "soft tissue" below where the boobie was (you know that bit that never sore the light of day before) can badly hit …. I am a basket case of nice red swollen blisters which keep trying to dry out – the "pop" again or burst rather and once again I am in agony. However this is not going to "get" me as we leave on our 10 day vacation to the Kruger National Park tomorrow morning at 3am … and I am wildly excited … My 18 year old (yes she turned 18 on Saturday — *puffy heart*) is my constant nurse and companion so she has it in hand ….
Look forward to chatting again on our return from holiday!
My tomoxiphine (spel?) has been ordered so the next leg continues …

p.s. we have an Irish pub near our home and it's the best!! We always have a great time enjoying food, music, singing, the people and of course – a pint or two! I can feel the goodness the moment I step inside.

Like you, I was diagnosed with FBC a few months before my 40th birthday. I'm happy to report that I survived chemo (neoadjuvant), bilateral mastectomy, bilateral sentinel node dissection and reconstructive surgery! I'm currently recovering from surgery (done on 7/17/12) and still having a lot of discomfort due to the tissue expanders – I HATE THEM WITH A PASSION!
At this time, I have more treatment plans on the horizon (Herceptin, Tamoxifen, Radiation). I'm on the fence with Tamoxifen and Radiation and will be discussing these in detail with my oncologist (aside from getting a second opinion). Your posts on these subjects have been very helpful.
