A Thousand Words – Elizabeth Messina

This weekend, my dear friend and photographer extraordinaire Elizabeth Messina published (on the Huffington Post) the most incredibly beautiful and equally inspiring open letter (& photograph of her son, above) to President Barack Obama.

Here is the link to the letter: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/elizabeth-messina/moms-open-letter-to-president-obama_b_2001956.html

I hope that when you read it, the message opens your heart and enlivens your soul as much as it has mine (Silver Lining).

The quote on Elizabeth’s blog, kiss the groom:

I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.

– Martin Luther King, Jr.

  1. i love this article and I remember when Elizabeth took these pictures. I remember when Malik was born and what a gorgeous child he was and is. Thank you for sharing this beautiful letter and moving photos.

  2. It is so important for all children of every color to have a role model image, just as it is for Elizabeth's Malik. It encourages our children to reach for the stars and to never limit their dreams due to color or ethnicity. Elizabeth Messina's letter is beautiful and reads straight from a Mother's heart. Thanks for sharing it, Hollye. <3
