Silver Lining Seeking Syndrome

The word “imPOSSIBLE” has presented itself to me three specific times today.

This morning this quote by Muhammad Ali came to me:

Impossible is just a big word thrown  around by small men who find it easier to live in the world they’ve been given than to explore the power they have to change it.  Impossible is not a fact.  It’s an opinion. Impossible is not a declaration.  It’s a dare. ImPOSSIBLE is potential. Impossible is temporary. Impossible is nothing.

I plan to adopt the GOAT’s (Greatest of All Time’s) unorthodox fighting style as I wage my war against FBC: “float like a butterfly, sting like a bee.”

While sometimes it feels IMpossible that this is happening, trust me: I KNOW that it is (e.g., a kind friend sent a chemo-specific cap to keep my upcoming bald head warm.  REALLY? WTF?).

I also know that it is POSSIBLE to get through it.  How?  It is BECAUSE of the loving generosity of the thoughtful friends who would anticipate that I will need something to keep my upcoming bald head warm.  Initially, it feels like:  WTF?  But these (and so many more amazing gestures) signal POSSIBILITY.

This afternoon, I was told  (by someone I respect tremendously) that I am near-pathologically positive.  IMpossible, though it was one of the nicest things someone could say to me.

Now, please do not mistake my positivity for denial because, though at times denial can be a healthy coping mechanism, I am definitely  NOT in denial.  (…though, I promise to tell you when I am!)

I happen to  simply see my positivity as a case of Silver Lining Seeking Syndrome. Where there is bad, there is good.  I choose to see the good.  By the way, I hope that SLSS is contagious!  Very contagious!

This evening I watched 4 3/4 perform as the Fairy Godmother in Cinderella.

Her solo? IMPOSSIBLE

4 3/4 as The Fairy Godmother in The Adderly School Production of Cinderella

Here are the Impossible Lyrics from Cinderella:

Impossible, for a plain yellow pumpkin to become a golden carriage.

Impossible, for a plain country bumpkin and a prince to join in

marriage,

And four white mice will never be four white hosrses!

Such fol-der-ol and fid-dle-dy dee of course, is— Impossible!

But the world is full of zanies and fools

Who don’t believe in sensible rules

And won’t believe what sensible people say.

And because these daft and dewey-eyed dopes keep building up impossible

hopes,

Impossible things are happening every day.

It’s Possible! For a plain yellow pumpkin to become a golden carriage!

It’s Possible! For a plain country bumpkin and a prince to join in marriage!

And four white mice are easily turned to horses!

Such fol-der-ol and fid-dle-dy dee of course, is

Quite Possible! It’s possible!

For the world is full of zanies and fools

Who don’t believe in sensible rules

And because these daft and dewey-eyed dopes keep building up Impossible
hopes Impossible things are happening every day!

It’s Poss-i-ble!

4 3/4 sang it not once, but three times (it was a flexible performance!).

Each time she sang, it was: Full of heart.  Full of passion.  Full of energy.  Full of joy.

This, my friends, is how I am approaching FBC.  I am learning from 4 3/4.  I am fully embracing my Silver Lining Seeking Syndrome and seeing the POSSIBLE in the seemingly

I wish you all a SL day full of the POSSIBLE!
