Bookworm: Shadow of the Wind

Before our vacation last week, the HOTY (yes, he’s STILL the Husband Of The Year) asked for a book recommendation. I didn’t hesitate: The Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafon. I couldn’t believe that I hadn’t recommended it to him before because it is one of my all-time favorite books. In fact, it could be my tippy-top all-time favorite book. I can’t remember where I heard about it, but it changed my life. It made me love reading more than ever before in my life and I’ve always loved reading. In fact, I was the geeky girl who drooled over the Scholastic Magazines in grammar school.

Then it occurred to me that I haven’t written about it here on The Silver Pen. Tsk-tsk to me. As I’m writing this, I’m wondering, “Do I tell you about the plot or no?”  I’m going with “no” because I don’t want even one of my words to interfere with the magic of this book. When I say magic, I mean magic.

If you don’t want to take my word for it, take the HOTY’s. When he finished it, he said, “That is quite possibly the best book I’ve ever read.” How’s that for a Silver Lining? Please read this book. And then please tell me how much you love it!

  1. I always appreciate your book reccommendations! Just curious, does Silverpen author read on ipad or purchase books. I read a few on ipad but like to own the book so I can add to our guest room to share with a friend.

    1. Hi Dear Thomas,
I am a book girl. I have tried to read on an iPad but it's not my thing. I love the entire sensory experience of reading a real, live book. I love the way it smells, the feel of the pages in my hand. I love bookmarks. I even love carrying them around! The Silver Lining is that carrying books builds muscles!
      xx

  2. I have put this on hold at the library and am refraining from reading any sort of description so it will be a complete surprise. And I just finished my annual re-read of A Tale of Two Cities (I cry every time), so I'm ready for a new book.

  3. I will make a point to order and read your recommended book, "The Shadow of the Wind".
I have a Kindle but prefer to read a book-book. I appreciate your comments as to why you prefer a book-book. I agree that it is a more sensory experience, but I do read on both.

    1. Thanks, Carolee. I know lots of people who definitely prefer kindle/iPad reading. Isn't it great that we now have so many options? Look forward to hearing how you like (hopefully love!) the book!
