Living Beyond Breast Cancer – This Weekend!

 Living Beyond Breast Cancer

This weekend, I am honored and excited to be speaking at the Living Beyond Breast Cancer Annual Fall conference in Philadelphia, PA.

When: Saturday, October 26, 2013 – Sunday, October 27, 2013
9:00 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.

Where: DoubleTree Hotel Philadelphia Center City
237 S. Broad Street
Philadelphia, PA 19107

I am so inspired by the LBBC’s mission to connect people with trusted breast cancer information and a community of support. I am also personally grateful for LBBC’s dedication to assist all of us who are diagnosed with breast cancer, whether newly diagnosed, in treatment, recently completed treatment, are years beyond or are living with metastatic breast cancer.

LBBC is truly here for us all by being a national education and support organization. As a nurse-turned-breast cancer-patient, this mission has EXTRA SPECIAL significance for me!

When I was a nurse, I was so happy to refer people to the LBBC programs. Little did I know that I would be using these resources personally.

On Saturday, I’ll be giving a general session, talking about “How to Navigate the Health Care System” (which, for the record, is no small task!) and a workshop discussing “How to Help a Loved One Diagnosed with Cancer.”

From the LBBC Website:

For 2013, we’ve expanded our annual fall conference to provide even more programming. A highlight will be our opening general session presented by Siddhartha Mukherjee, MD, PhD, author of the Pulitzer Prize-winning book The Emperor of All Maladies: A Biography of Cancer.

A second general session featuring Hollye Jacobs, RN, MS, MSW, founder and editor of TheSilverPen.com, and a closing session hosted by dietician Suzanne Dixon, MPH, MS, RD, will also be featured.

In addition to providing the latest news and information, the conference also affords you a wonderful chance to expand your circles of support and gain insight into the resources LBBC has available as you navigate life after a breast cancer diagnosis.

Our three general session speakers will be joined by some of the country’s leading breast cancer experts specializing in treatment and quality-of-life issues.  Workshops address topics that include current research discoveries, medical advancements and healthy living strategies for women of all ages diagnosed with all stages and types of breast cancer.

Additional highlights include:

  • Information on genetic testing and family risk
  • Healthful eating tips for during and after breast cancer
  • Methods to manage the emotional impact of diagnosis and survivorship
  • Workshops on treatment options for different breast cancer diagnoses and treatment decision planning
  • Information about the effects of breast cancer treatments on fertility and ways to explore your options

If you happen to be near Philly, please come say hi!  I’d love to see you!
