Success

Below is one of my favorite passages from Ralph Waldo Emerson.  If ever there were a way to find SL’s in a day, it is by reading this definition of success.

To laugh often and much;

To win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children;

To earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends;

To appreciate beauty, to find the best in others;

To leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch or a redeemed social condition;

To know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived.

This is to have succeeded.

  2. Just catching up on your posts. I loved this one. Emerson's poetry is so touching. Here's a favorite of mine that appeared on last yr.'s Xmas card: "For each new morning with it's light, for rest and belter of the night, for health and food, for love and friends, for everything thy goodness sends." that about sums it ALL up.
