We have just returned from our family summer vacation to Yosemite. Wow! What a trip. Have you ever been? We hadn’t. Though people told us how beautiful it is, I was completely unprepared for just how magnificent it truly is. Stunning is probably the best word to describe it.
Why is Yosemite so beautiful? Well, because more than one million years ago, nature got its own Michelangelo – the Ice Age. Ice filled the entire region, and like a sculptor chiseling away at a huge block of marble, the ice began carving the land into what it is today: steep cliffs, rounded domes, and a lush valley floor.
We had a blast! There was never a lack of anything to do. Fun for the whole family, all day long!
Oh yes she did…become a Junior Park Ranger. Was she ever P.R.O.U.D.!
Some of our highlights were our day trip to the Mariposa grove of the Big (Sequoia) Trees, located near the south entrance to the park on Highway 41. Those sequoia’s, the largest living things on the planet, by the way, are beyond belief. Photos just don’t do them justice.
The views from Glacier Point are simply breathtaking. Though it takes some time to get there, the juice is definitely worth the squeeze…as we like to say (meaning that it’s worth the effort).
Although there are 13 falls in the park, only four are accessible by trails. These are Yosemite Falls (upper and lower), Bridalveil (because, yes, it looks like a bride’s veil!) Fall, Vernal Falls and nevada Falls. I’m happy to say that we hiked to them all…which a major Silver Lining of the trip!
We even saw a little wild life! While Sweetly Six and I were at the children’s theatre performance (yes, she volunteered to participate!), the HOTY (a/k/a Husband Of The Year for new readers) saw a BEAR. Oh, yes he did. Well, he says that he did, though there is no formal documentation.
If you ever have the opportunity to go, I say goooooooo! Now, just to let you know, summer time is the season of more…as in people. It’s PACKED to the gills. So, definitely prepare yourself for that; however, everyone is on vacation and (for the most part) happy (Silver Lining).
When we lived in Reno, so close to Yosemite, we enjoyed the Park so often. Thank heavens for all of America's National Parks! They remain secure of commercialism for all of the public to enjoy forever.

We are just back from Yosemite. My very own HOTY planned the trip for my birthday because he knew I wanted to see a Moonbow which only happens on nights with a full or nearly full moon and enough water falling.
I've been going to Yosemite since childhood and it still amazes me. Thanks for sharing your impressions. I'll be writing about my trip today with tips for seeing the moonbow.
