On Monday evening, I had the goosebump Silver Lined experience of attending the Metropolitan Museum of Art Gala (a/k/a the Met Gala) in New York. The Met Gala is an annual event that launches the Costume Institute spring exhibition. The Costume Institute is a very special place that “houses a collection of more than thirty-five thousand costumes and accessories, representing five continents and seven centuries of fashionable dress, regional costumes, and accessories for men, women, and children, from the fifteenth century to the present.”
The Met Gala, or Met Ball as it is also called, has a theme that goes with the exhibition, and antendees usually incorporate the theme with their outfits. The event raises money for the Met’s Costume InstituteEach year the Gala celebrates a new exhibit. This year’s exhibition is PUNK: Chaos to Couture. With over 100 pieces, this exhibit examines “punk’s impact on high fashion from the movement’s birth in the early 1970s through its continuing influence today.”
It was an incredible event. My oh my (on my!) were there some outfits to behold. I had my iPhone with me and couldn’t help but snap a few shots…as did every other guest there!
Yes, these steps were as intimidating as they look. Thank heavens I was wearing flats (yes, flats!) under my long dress which meant that I was comfy and didn’t fall (double Silver Lining). I’m a practical Midwestern girl at heart.
Here I am, giddy as can be! Heaven knows I filled my lifetime quota of punk in the 80’s and 90’s, so I dressed more traditionally.
This chandelier was made specifically for the event. Get this: it is made out of plastic razor blades. Unbelievable!
Cocktails were held here. In about 15 minutes, this room would be packed.

The table decor was simple and elegant, a bit anti-punk if you ask me!

Debbie (or is it Deborah?) Harry was the surprise performer. Oh my goodness gracious, does she ever ROCK. Seriously. It was such a blast!
After the event, the HOTY and I went to the Mark Hotel for a little late-night snack and look (!) my dress matches the floor!
The exhibit is running now through August 14th. I highly recommend seeing it if you get to be in New York!
