First of all, please allow me to WELCOME all of you new readers to The Silver Pen! Thanks to yesterday’s LIVESTRONG letter and The Glitter Guide profile, I’ve met quite a few new and fabulous people (Silver Lining). I’m so happy that you’re here!

Secondly, as many of you know, I am a regular contributor to The Huffington Post. I’m honored and humbled by the opportunity to do so.

WTF, you ask? How do I go from Glitter Guide to talking about Including Children at Funerals, you wonder? Well, the truth of the matter is that this is how I roll. I have a passion for balancing the terrestrial with the celestial (as a dear friend describes it). In other words, style & fashion are as much a part of my life as are heavy duty (and sometimes earth shattering) life circumstances.
Life is a roller coaster. Heaven knows that after having worked in pediatric hospice for 10 years and now having spent over a year as a FBC (f-bomb breast cancer) patient, I get the full essence of the ride.
My professional experiences combined with my personal experiences have made me acutely aware of the obvious yet unsettling fact that nothing in this world stays the same for long. The key is how we respond to inevitable change. I happen to be a person who tries everyday to step into the fullness of my humanity, to stay awake in the face of fear, to take risks and always (always!) look for Silver Linings in life.

Miss Jacobs, I have been reading your Silver Linings on my fb sites & enjoy it alot when I read it. I am a Cancer survivor of 5 yrs this May. I had a full double masectomy tramflap reconstruction done. Shortly after I had went home from hospital I got sick & had to go back, & a infectious disease dr put a strep swab in my stomache (there was a huge hole left there from the tram flap that was to heal on it's own), she had given me stalph & I have been dealing with it ever since & numerous surgeries ever since on my stomache. I am so angry with her over this & what I have to go through all the time. I have recently went thru a divorce (30 yrs married to alchoholic) & 4 kids & 7 gr kids later. If I knew then what I know now I wouldn't have had the tram flap, I would have had the fake ones done. I am glad I have no more cancer that is a plus in itself. I commend you on what you are doing it is so nice to see & read someone else's story out there that has gone thru cancer & willing to tell it.
