Hi Hollye – Came across your site as I wanted to share my story (literally, see below) with others. But, saw your recent posting on Tamoxifen and I totally know where you’re coming from! I’ve been on Tamoxifen for about a year and I am so tired of waking up in the middle of the… Continue reading S.F.'s Silver Linings

Saturday Sweeps: Parenting and Health
My dear friend, Elizabeth Messina (the amazing photographer whose images you see on the The Silver Pen) wrote the most beautiful, sorrowful, inspiring and deeply moving blog post this week about the terrifying health scare that her family has had to face in the last month. This post is exquisite equally in photography and in… Continue reading Saturday Sweeps: Parenting and Health
Well, Hello and Welcome!
First of all, please allow me to WELCOME all of you new readers to The Silver Pen! Thanks to yesterday’s LIVESTRONG letter and The Glitter Guide profile, I’ve met quite a few new and fabulous people (Silver Lining). I’m so happy that you’re here! As you will come to know, I’m a big fan of feedback.… Continue reading Well, Hello and Welcome!
Downton Kool-Aid
It’s official, I have partaken in the Downton Abbey Kool-Aid and I am HOOKED. The British period drama, centering on the aristocratic Crawley family, explores the relationship between the patricians who live upstairs and their servants downstairs. What hooked me were the fantastic web of stories about love and class wrapped in superb, nuanced dialog, exquisite… Continue reading Downton Kool-Aid
Attitude: The Longer I Live
I heard someone describe this week as the “dead week.” I’m a little sensitive to that description. WTF? Wouldn’t you be after a year of FBC? Rather, I think of it as a wonderfully quite opportunity to reflect on the year that is ending. One of the great Silver Linings that has come to me this… Continue reading Attitude: The Longer I Live
Seeking Constructive Criticism
I’m a big fan of constructive criticism. I love a perspective other than my own. I even love being made to feel uncomfortable. That may sound weird, but I am a firm believer that good things, i.e., growth comes from discomfort.
Cuban Cars
The HOTY (a.k.a. Husband of the Year for new readers) and I have just returned from a magnificent trip to Cuba. Yes, Cuba. I still can’t believe that this time yesterday we were in Havana. Worlds, no galaxies apart. Traveling to Cuba is like traveling in a time machine back to the year 1959. From… Continue reading Cuban Cars
Friday's Fixin's: Running Preparation & Recovery Treats
As I prepare for my 1/2 Marathon this Sunday, I am thinking about what I’m going to eat before and after the run. I am a big fan of Brendan Brazier who is a professional triathlete (can you imagine?!?) and a two-time Canadian 50 km Ultra Marathon Champion (that is OVER 100 miles, in case you were wondering!). In addition to his studley athleticism, he is also a vegan. Super cool Silver Lining.

Think Pink not Gumby
Last night I attended a fundraiser for the Breast Cancer Resource Center (BCRC) of Santa Barbara. The theme was “Think Pink.” Just for the record: my favorite color was pink BEFORE FBC. I’m just sayin’… I was asked to say a few words at the event. Even writing that makes my hands clammy.… Continue reading Think Pink not Gumby
