F.R.E.E. is a Four-Letter Word

You all know how helpful dropping f-bombs has been during my experience with FBC, right?  Well, recently I came across another (much more fabulous!) “F” word to associate with FBC:  F.R.E.E.

Last week I received an email out of the blue from Bethany Kandel. In addition to her kind words about The Silver Pen, she told me that she was diagnosed with FBC five years ago.  As a result, during her treatment and recovery, she put her extensive skills as a journalist to work by compiling all of the (FREE!) resources that she could find into a recently launched blog, “Breast Cancer Freebie$“. (Yes, the “s” is cleverly replaced by a $ sign!).

Don’t you just love the name? I mean, seriously. She describes breastcancerfreebies.com as “help for the body, soul and pocketbook when you need it most!” It is her way of “paying it forward in gratitude for my health and in thanks to all the good people out there who want to help others.”  Talk about a major Silver Lining!

Bethany generously agreed to share more of her story (and gift to the FBC world!) with us:

I thoroughly enjoyed my time on this site and encourage you to share it with anyone who could benefit from it.  Thank you, Bethany, for this incredible gift!

  1. Thank you so much Hollye for helping me spread the word on my website! I'm so excited to be included in The Silver Pen blog! Those on Facebook can "like" my breast cancer freebies page and they'll see current and short-term freebies as well. And remember, many of those offering freebies are very small non-profits with limited resources, so if you get a freebie you love, consider sending them a donation at some point so they can keep up their mission. Be healthy!

  2. What a fabulous resource! Does anyone know of a source of cell phones/minutes for breast cancer patients? I'm working with a breast cancer patient who can no longer work due to treatment and her phone is about to be cut off.

    1. Betsy: I would call the American Cancer Society and see if they can find some local financial assistance for her. Also CancerCare has all sorts of assistance. If they can't help perhaps they can point you out to another organization that can. Have you tried talking to a supervisor at the phone company? You never know if they'll give her a temporary break due to the circumstances. I know there is help out there! Good luck and keep me posted. Send me an email at breastcancerfreebies@gmail and if I find something else, I'll be sure to let you know!
