Celebrating a Cancerversary

Cancerversary

This time last year, as I was nearing the end of my “Fat and Happy Summer,” I decided to begin training for a half marathon. I’ve run several marathons in my life (San Diego, Chicago and Paris) and thought that giving myself something for which to train, i.e., a G-O-A-L would be a good thing.

You know, Win-Win:  I accomplish a great achievement AND lose some extra lbs.

Well, needless to say, my training was cut short by my FBC (F-bomb breast cancer) diagnosis.

I’ve just started running again (Silver Lining). And it feels absolutely fantastic!  So, I thought that there would be no better way to celebrate the one year anniversary of my diagnosis than with a 1/2 Marathon.

I was diagnosed on October 15th, 2010.  On October 16, 2011, I’m going to run the California Wine Country Half Marathon on October 16, 2011.  Wow.  That felt GREAT to say!

If you ever get a second chance in life for something, you’ve got to go all the way.

  1. Hollye, gee some people would have celebrated with the wine. No slowing you down, good for you Hollye to set such a goal for yourself!
    Cheers!

  2. Hollye, I read your blog daily and have never responded. I only have one thing to say after reading today's posting about the half marathon… "why not?" I'd expect nothing less than this given your incredible spirit. Keep going.

  3. You are AWESOME Hollye! I will meet you at the finish line with a glass, no make that a bottle of wine!!
(if I ran more than a mile I'd probably faint- and so would everyone that knows me 🙂 )
    xx

  4. That's fantastic! Sounds like a beautiful and 'refreshing' experience! If you're up for a second half marathon in May, there's a Wine Country Half in Santa Ynez then… I missed it this year but have done it in the past. It's a gorgeous, point to point course.
