A Big Day

Before any big event, my dear, beloved mother-in-law used to say to her boys (& then to her grandchildren):  “You have a Big Day.”

Today was a big, BIG day!  A Silver-Lined day.

Why?  Well, because today I had my port-a-cath REMOVED.  Yep, that’s right. The vehicle through which chemotherapy went for 4+ months is Gone, Baby Gone.

It hurt like nobody’s business. F-Bomb. But you know what?  I’m so flippin’ happy that there is no way, now how that this physical pain can overtake my emotional joy.

I feel such an incredible sense of success. Triumph. Completion.

While Radiation awaits, I am reveling in the joy that is this moment.

This Silver Lined poem came to me in several different forms recently.  How timely.

Don’t Quit

When things go wrong as they sometimes will,
When the road you’re trudging seems all uphill
When the funds are low and the debts are high,
And you want to smile, but you have to sigh,
When care is pressing you down a bit —
Rest if you must, but don’t quit.

Life is strange with its twists and turns,
As every one of us sometimes learns,
And many a fellow turns about
When he might have won had he stuck it out.
Don’t give up though the pace seems slow —
You may succeed with another blow.

Often the goal is nearer than
It seems to a fair and faltering man,
Often the struggler has given up
When he might have captured the victor’s cup,
And he learned too late when night came down,
How close he was to the golden crown.

Success is failure turned inside out —
The silver tint of the clouds of doubt,
And you never can tell how close you are,
It may be near when it seems afar,
So stick to the fight when you’re hardest hit, —
It’s when things seem worst that you mustn’t quit.

  2. Hollye,
I am so very happy for you and your whole family. I had a hard time looking at the photo of your port posted months ago….just too sad and real. You took the poison with grace and dignity. Enjoy Mother's Day which hopefully is pain free.
    xoxo
