Fashion SL's: Chance

This summer, I had the great good fortune to meet Julia Leach, founder and president of the new and magnificent company, Chance.  Julia is the former creative director of Kate Spade.  She is smart, funny, gorgeous, chic and incredibly kind.  Chance’s foundation is the iconic striped t-shirt.  The high quality combined with reasonable pricing prompted me to stock up on my summer T’s.  Boy oh boy am I glad I did because I wear them ALL of the time!

Chance is much more than just t-shirts, though.  It’s a true lifestyle brand, a whole point of view. It feels refreshing in its simplicity and quality, but has a confidence to it as well. It was important to Julia to launch with a diverse but focused product assortment. There are beach towels, books, tote bags, espadrilles and hats. The striped T-shirt is just the beginning.

Julia was kind enough to answer some of my musings, which made me all the more crazy about her and Chance (Silver Lining!).

Company name inspiration…

The character “Chance, the Gardener” in the Peter Sellers film “Being There.”
A politician in the film says of Chance (or “Chauncey Gardner,” as he’s mistakenly called), “He has a particular brand of optimism.” That’s Chance. It’s a bit abstract since it has nothing to do with his style, but it makes perfect sense in my mind, and the word works on so many levels and in so many languages.
