Sometimes, it's the little things

FBC has taught me to pay attention.  To the little things.  And to enjoy every potentially enjoyable moment.  Not in a fatalistic way, but in a this is awesome and I need to savor every moment.

Speaking of savor, a friend knows that I have a penchant (ok, an obsession) for all things caramel, but especially cake and ice cream. Last week, she offered to make some homemade caramel ice cream.

Another thing that FBC has taught me is to say “YES” to kind, thoughtful offers.

I came home to find the most magnificent and amazing and delicious ice cream I have ever tasted.  I have a feeling that it was extra delicious because it was made with so much love!

Ice Cream - Before

This week, another friend dropped off the most adorable spoons I have EVER seen.  (Yes, I know that I have the most incredibly thoughtful and generous friends imaginable and I am so grateful for each and every one!)

Each of the spoons has a saying on them, for example, the one I used to inhale the ice cream says, “Good Morning Love”.  How on earth could you not be happy eating from something so loving as this?  I mean, really.

Ice Cream - After

In addition to the ice cream, this same friend dropped of “Maya’s Momma’s Caramel Cake”.  I’m serious.  Ok, just the name is fabulous. I was beyond excited.

You know what I did?  Before photographing and then devouring each, I smelled them both.  Just soaked in the most glorious aroma that is caramel. I doubt that I would have done that before FBC.  I truly relished in the sense of smell. And it was stupendous.

Cake - Before

Cake - After Finally Five got into it!

I loved that Finally Five went right for the icing side of the cake with the biggest scoop she could muster. Why on earth NOT do that?

Both “kids” were lurking around this deliciously decadent and divine gift in our life.

Buzz gave his best hang-dog look, trying to get the same scoop as Finally Five. Sorry, Buzz.

Today has been a day about savoring.  Savoring aromas. Savoring flavors. Savoring friends. Savoring thoughtfulness. Savoring Finally Five. Savoring love.

It has been a day about the little things, which are the big things in life, really.

If you concentrate on finding whatever is good in every situation, you will discover that your life will suddenly be filled with gratitude, a feeling that nurtures the soul.

  2. Oh, carmel! Is there anything better? There used to be an ice cream spot in Chicago called Zepher and the carmel sundae (known as the Golden Gate) was the absolute best (yum!). The picture of your carmel ice cream (double yum) just made me literally RUN to the freezer for a frozen Snickers ice cream bar (it was the closest thing I had). Suddenly, I could hardly contain myself! 😉
Thanks for reminding us to savor the little things we sometimes take for granted.
Thinking of you and sending you a big hug!
