Having breast cancer does not mean losing one’s sense of style! Wearing scarves everyday has really made me think about what I wear. Time and time again, I go back to wearing black and white because it is a blank canvas on which to layer colors and fun accessories.

Buzzin' with Buzz
I was reflecting today on how my life (and this FBC period) has been enhanced by our newly adopted dog, Buzz. Despite his diagnosis of Exercise Induced Collapse and the occasional Counter Surfing, he has brought love, light and joy into the life of our family (Silver Lining!). Thinking about him, and the… Continue reading Buzzin' with Buzz
Chemo Course Continues
Today was Chemo #5. Since I was unable to have chemo last week (because I didn’t recover from the 4th treatment), I had a revised version today. Though the original plan was that this was supposed to be the 5th of 6 treatments, I will have to go a little longer (maybe a lot longer… Continue reading Chemo Course Continues
Rafa Ready
This morning, I woke up a little grumpy. At first I didn’t realize why. What is THIS about, I wondered. Well, I became conscious of the fact that my Oscar the Grouchiness was because I have chemo tomorrow. F-bomb. I thought to myself that I’ve only had a handful of good days this month and… Continue reading Rafa Ready
Do Unto Others
Today I had the great Silver Lining of hearing Ruth Reichl speak as part of the UCSB Arts & Lectures Program. She is a beloved authority on foodie culture, the former Editor in Chief of Gourmet magazine and recipient of six James Beard Awards for food writing. And she is cool. She told the story about her… Continue reading Do Unto Others
Beautiful Budding
This morning, for the first time in a month, I went on a HIKE! I can’t begin to describe how happy this made me. I was giddy from the tips of my toes to the top of my bald head. Everywhere I looked, I found beautiful budding (Silver Lining). The photograph below describes exactly how… Continue reading Beautiful Budding
Chipper Chicks
Today has been an outstanding, Silver Lined day! Nearly 3 1/2 weeks since my last chemo, it feels as if the dimmer on the light switch was raised and voilà: the lights went on. That is the best way to describe the SL feeling of coming out of the debilitating (for me) effects of chemo. … Continue reading Chipper Chicks
Being Happy
Being happy means seeing these beautiful flowers between afternoon rain showers. Being happy means seeing the rain drops on the petals, knowing that it is the rain that makes them so beautiful. Being happy means seeing this sign and doubling over in laughter, knowing full well that I have EARNED this parking spot! Being happy… Continue reading Being Happy
Brookside Babycakes
As I have mentioned here many times, I am about 90% Vegan (at the pleading of my oncologic nutritionist, I have wild caught fish once or twice a week). The good news is that being Vegan is not only not that hard, but there are FABULOUS vegan options available now, which makes both going out… Continue reading Brookside Babycakes
Bad News, Good News, Silver Lining News
Bad News: Today was supposed to have been my 5th of 6 chemo infusions. However, I have not yet recovered from the last round of chemo (three F-bomb weeks ago!). As a consequence, my Oncologist and I decided (everything is a joint decision with him – as it should be!) that I need another week… Continue reading Bad News, Good News, Silver Lining News
