Today is Hollye’s birthday. What a difference a year makes. Last year we were preparing for chemo cocktails, this year the splendid wines of Napa. Last birthday recovering from surgery and having a great dinner with friends and family, with the dread of knowing what was just around a the corner, this year a spectacular… Continue reading The HOTY Returns

A Picture is Worth a Thousand Words
A Picture is Worth a Thousand Words Just when I thought that life was really back on track and FBC was gaining more and more distance from our lives, our daughter (a.k.a. Finally Five) dropped a big fat reminder that FBC is still at the forefront of her mind (even though she hasn’t talked about… Continue reading A Picture is Worth a Thousand Words
A Thanksgiving Full of Gratitude
Wishing you all a peaceful, joyous, healthy (or at least recovering), and Silver Lined Thanksgiving.
Teachable Moment
This morning, I woke up to: “Momma! Momma! There is a baby bird shivering outside on the patio!” Oh great. What a (non)perfect way to start the day. I stumbled out of bed to find a baby hummingbird humming its final tune. My heart sank. Where oh where is the Silver Lining here? Ahhh, ’tis an opportunity for a very special teachable moment.

Since I’ve been home and recovering, Finally Five has been revisiting a lot of the original questions about FBC as well as asking some new ones. So, I thought I’d take this opportunity to share with you her questions and our answers.
Husband Report
The HOTY (a/k/a Husband of the Year) returns with reflections about the end of radiation.
Bambino Red Gate Adventure
This weekend, the HOTY (a/k/a Husband of the Year) and our daughter Finally Five came for a visit. I was out of my mind excited to see them! Joy of joys. The thing that Finally Five was most excited about was not the salt water taffy in Sausilito (though that did get some… Continue reading Bambino Red Gate Adventure
A Spoonful of Sugar
Finally Five and I shared a wonderful Silver Lining afternoon with Mary Poppins. We learned innumerable supercalifragilisticexpialidocious life lessons that we hold near and dear during breast cancer and will carry with us long after.
Finally Five's Flower
The other day, our daughter, a/k/a Finally Five and our dog, Buzz, took me outside for a little sun and love, both of which I (really!) needed during this chemo week. Finally Five decided that my “Thinking Cap” (what we kindly refer to as the cream cashmere cap that I wear when my bald head… Continue reading Finally Five's Flower
Finally Five!
The day has finally arrived! Our daughter, who has been 4 3/4 since the Brookside Buzz began, is FINALLY FIVE! From this point forward (until the next 1/4 mile marker), I will refer to her as “Finally Five”. We have started a new tradition with Finally Five: the night before her birthday, we put a… Continue reading Finally Five!
